Ok, so now you all probably think I am going to reveal my deepest, darkest secrets, well sorry folks. However, I am gonna get down and dirrty cos on Tuesday night I attended the final show of X-tina's Stripped tour (sorry, I couldn't help myself). Now let me just say I'm still not comfortable with the arena pop concert thing, it all seems so sterile, people just sitting or standing where they are told, carefully spaced out. In this environment it just seems so much harder to get into it all, guess I am just used to being smushed into hoards of sweaty, stinking punters and getting kicked in the head by crowd surfers, ahh the heady days of youth... Anyway, X-tina was pretty damn good, although it's hard not to giggle at the outfits, esp all her 12 year old fans kitted out in booty shorts there with their parents. And ouch! The pants she wore, when she first strutted out on stage I thought she was looking rather conservative (esp. as she opened with dirrty) but that was until she turned around. I could feel the wedge from where I was sitting 20 rows back and she was wearing fishnets underneath so you and I can only imagine the grating effect they must have had.
Seriously though that girl can sing, her voice is fucking huge. Although I just can't swallow all her empowerment crap, I think pop should just stick to what it does best, entertain. And although she made a big point of saying in her show it's not just the women who wear skimpy clothes I didn't see much male flesh, in one song a dancer undid his fly but that was about as raunchy as it got.
All in all it was a pretty good show, she even managed to fire up Genie in Bottle, and Fighter, Bam!
