Nothing really fun happened in my man hating subject today, which is kind of annoying 'cos it has been gold in recent weeks. The tutor was even quite nice and encouraging to the two men (well boys really) giving their presentation. This is a bit unusual as over the past weeks she has defined gender as "men oppressing women" and also said she could take on the boys in the class in some kind of physical test (she couldn't, she is really tiny). Another highlight was when a boy asked "if lesbian feminists thought that hetrosexual sex was unequal what did they think the solution was?", she snaps "what, we have to figure that out for you too, do we!"
Another disappointment with the class is the lack on any real radical female students, we haven't had any women arguing all penetrative sex is rape, and no straight woman can be a feminist, which is kind of dull.
Anyway reading The Age pissed me off today with an article entitled Heath's Gay Turn. Apparently Heath is a bit annoyed that he has been forced into the gym to prepare for the role of a gay cowboy, "You'd think you would kind of build up and work out to play a superhero or something, but it ends up being for a gay cowboy story." The implication being, I assume, that if he were playing a real man's role eg. superhero he would feel justified in bulking up, whereas just playing some wimpy fag it hardly seems worth effort. This was during an interview with Leno on American TV and the rest of the conversation seems to have been all wink, wink, nudge, nudge, jokes and the like. It really annoys me when straight actors have to make a big deal out of playing gay roles as if to prove their hetrosexuality. Oh...yeah, my girlfriend really encouraged me to go for this part... Another offender of this on a much more homophobic level is Ian Somerhalder who had to kiss James Van Der Beek in The Rules of Attraction. In one interview he was all like, "I will never kiss a man again, it was disgusting etc etc." Although, if your only experience of kissing a man was Dawson maybe I can understand. Anyway, that was enough to put me off googling him, ahem, not that I was anyway.
