Fucking Fuck! I thought Elanor's enthusiasm was a bit misplaced but a 3% swing towards the Liberals?!? I can't even watch anymore. Other scary things noted include; The Liberals have the balance of power in the senate, How? Why? Also, the rise of Christians, as Christian, in politics. And where the hell did Family First come from? Well I know it came from Assemblies of God, but apart from that, it kind of snuck up on me, I guess I'm not really their target demographic (actually has only been around since 8 August 2004). Just been checking out their site to find their definition of 'family', it seems, not unexpectedly, that "family grows out of heterosexual relationships between men and women". They also explain "the extra benefits marriage bring to family life" and "affirm and defend the institution of marriage as being a union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all other." They also have policy on pornography but it seems to be limited to child pornography, and the effect of pornography on children. Which seems limited but I guess they probably don't want to piss too many powerful media owners off, and 'spose don't want to restrict the 'rights' of adults to watch the sexual degradation of women in their own homes. They don't seem to have any policies on women themselves although they did have a press release entitled "Fathers day for some is a day of greif [sic] and heartache" where they call for a national day of remembrance for fathers who have suicided through lack of access to their children (not sure if they are including those who take their ex-partner and children with them). Apparently 85% of single parent families are fatherless! Nasty, nasty women and The Law taking away poor fathers from their children. Not included was a statistic of how many fathers wanted the reponsibility of raising their children. Also included was a quote from the impartial Andrea Mason, Family First party leader, "Our nation is in crisis due to lack of father." Crisis you hear!
I say Families First, women and LBGTI last.
