I guess it's our fault for being apathetic and I think Bob Brown sums it up:
"I am very sad, because to me Australia is a kind hearted country, but that's not the way the vote's gone tonight," Senator Brown said.
"It's gone for this cold-hearted Howard government and they may well have control of the Senate by next July.
"But the people who have voted for that want that outcome. They want people behind razor wire, they want the East Timorese done out of their royalties, they want to see the drift of funding to the public sector away from the private sector, they want to see indigenous Australians doing badly in the health stakes.
That is a statement of Australia 2004."
