I have just cleaned my room and it is Beautiful. Actually I have mainly herded things into corners and piles, and a couple of things into the cupboard. Along the way I turned up a number of interesting items.
-A Shopping list for out housewarming party:
Vodka
Trashcan ?
Fruit
Vodka (you can see I was keen not to forget the vodka)
-3 Oranges. Still perfectly fine, thankyou.
-A page torn out of bnews with the article "Princes and Penguins" which continues; "With its chic gay-owned eateries, cellar doors and elegant shopping, Phillip Island could very well be the new Daylesford." The hilarity of which can only be grasped by people who have actually been to Phillip Island. Methinks the writer may have friends who own a certain eatery on 'The Isle.'
-Various cards/advertisements for things I never quite made it to, including a couple of Bell Shakespeare productions, a Where the Wild Things Are exhibition, etc...
-Back of on envelope covered with insightful jottings such as;
"...Richardson's creation of a woman of letters enabled female writers like Austen and Brontes... ...Importance of narrative voices, female authority.......*Skim Bakhtin..."
Nice to see I was taking that essay seriously.
-A leaflet I picked up outside the Baillieu Library entitled "Right of Reply" (Get it? Get it?) Containing such illuminating articles as "Feminism and her stillborn children", "VSU: Persecuting Students by NOT charging them $300 per year" and my personal favorite "Sex and the Umbrellas" which is a plaintive piece about the confusion student may feel when given a 'welcome pack' containing what at first appear to be "novelty balloons, lubricated for some inexplicable reason." It then continues to blame condoms for the "harm and unnecessary sluttiness of our times." And finishes by asserting, with no hint of irony, that a "responsible older person would not ram condoms down our throat."
Indeed.
There is an email address and I was tempted, but I restrained myself.
Now I just have to dust...
